Apparently October is a big month for Kenyan holidays, but . . . last Thursday, November 6th, put that idea to shame. November 6th, marked the biggest holiday since we've been here: Obama Day. No work, no school, just celebration. But, lest you think that one day of national holiday was a bit excessive, let me inform you of the talk of the town: in Nigeria they had an entire week of holidays. Our Kenyan friends were asking us to confirm if those rumors were true, and . . . that was the first we had heard of it. But, after being here amidst the election hype, I don't doubt it.
To say that the Kenyan's love Obama here might be a bit of an understatement. Even riding the public transport has become a forum for asking the American girls about Obama. Karis might have a future in politics, now that she has been repeatedly asked to be a campaign manager for one of our Kenyan friends, who is so inspired by Obama that he wants to run for office. Such is the life of politics and holidays in Kenya these days.
