Kristmasi Event

Well, about two weeks ago now we had a week FULL of kristmasi activities . . .primarily our "christmas event" put on by a team of youth from NCF and hosted by a school and two different churches in the slums of Kibera, Mukuru and Ongata Rongai. The events turned out to be a Huge success --with the kids out of school every event had 100+ participants, more than we would have ever anticipated and just enough for our team of 13 to handle!
On Monday, 8th, we were in Kibera, having connected with a mission First Love Kenya that works with a school there. We used a large classroom to host our Nativity Play --which was all in Kiswahili (complete with Abby declaring a Glory to God in the highest in Kiswahili since she was an angel!!!) which was followed by songs, star craft and snacks.
Tuesday, 9th, we were in Mukuru, where we partnered with a local church that WHM works with, particularily with Kianga Kids, and were hosted by Mary (Pastor Julius' wife there) and met in the church building. This was the same location that the November New Life team had been working in and so there is a brand new playground built outside there. It was fun to have the slum children participate and get to come in since they usually dont get to play on it.
Finally, after a couple days break, on Friday, 12th, we gathered children from the streets in Ongata Rongai and hosted the last event at a local church. This was particularly exciting and Pastor Joel, came away very excited about the impact he believed it could have on the community. THis was exciting for all of us to hear, and encouraging to have him invite the NCF youth into an outreach partnership for the future.
Overall, it was so encouraging to see the youth really take ownership of the event and work with the kids. Having it in kiswahili was crux, and i was really thankful for the way the Lord had led us in the whole event. Hopefully more than just a bit of christmas cheer was spread to the kids, and we continue to pray for this continuing relationship with these churches and for the love of spreading the gospel and ministering to grow in the youth.
