When one thinks of Masai Mara open plains, wild animals and beautiful sunsets usually come to mind. We got to experience all of those things and appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of it all. But our Masai experience was well, more so just that: Masai. We had the opportunity to travel with fellow WHMer George Mixon, who had lived in the Mara for 6 years prior to moving to Nairobi. On Sunday we had the opportunity to help George with his “storying”* at a local church and eat with some of the congregation. That night we slept (or didn’t sleep rather) in a local Masai village. Truth be told, it was possibly one of the longest nights of my life, but I wouldn’t take it back! There was something about sharing one bed with 2 other girls and many other little friends (that luckily didn’t bite) while being in a warm/extremely hot house and hearing leopards** outside that leaves an everlasting impression in your mind. Unfortunately, I was coming down with something and found myself sniffling and sneezing all night, however not to be out done, the cow in the room over also had a bit of a cold and beat me for consecutive sneezes in a row with an outstanding 8. Bravo. Overall we were humbled by Carsis, our hostess’ hospitality, and despite the language barrier (our masai being limited to sopa: hello, and lala: teeth –that’s what happens when one of you is a dental hygenist I guess), we understood that we were very welcomed to be there. The following morning we got to walk about and hear some more masai stories and testimonies having the opportunity not only to wonder at another culture but God’s faithfulness to all people. What a great experience!
*storying: sharing the bible/gospel through stories
**this is a questionable/debatable fact

Karis! I'm finally reading up on your blog and catching myself up on what's been going on in your life. Crazy thing that you mention storying...that's what Nick is doing in Uganda, one of his main ministries. I hope the 2 of you can get together sometime down here at our house and share with us all of your experiences from Africa! He comes back in June and will be at our house for a couple weeks. Love you lots girl and am praying for you! P.S. Lucas is getting so big, can't wait for you to meet him! Love, Ang~
